If you’ve grown tired of notch or punch-hole cutouts and pop-up sensors, ZTE’s Axon 20 5G could be the phone you need. Sporting a big 6.92-inch OLED display that houses a 32MP under-display selfie camera, the Axon 20 5G is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G processor, sports a quad-rear camera setup and is now on sale in Europe with a $449/€449/£419 price tag.
Before we get to the specifications, let’s take a closer look at the phones’ main claim to fame – the under-display selfie camera.

The first consumer smartphone to launch with an under-display camera, the Axon 20 5G sports new organic and inorganic films that allow light to pass through the display to the front camera sensor. To maximize transparency and suppress optical diffraction, an anti-reflection treatment has been applied, with a special OLED panel developed to let sufficient light into the camera sensor.
With a new triple selfie algorithm to optimize performance, a special pixel matrix with different pixel sizes and arrangement provides a greater display consistency and camera performance. The actual sensor has 32 megapixels. You’ll also find the fingerprint sensor, light sensor, and speaker under the display, creating a blemish-free experience.
Under the hood, you’ll find the Snapdragon 765G processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of built-in storage, and a 4,220mAh battery with 30W fast-charging. A 64MP main camera resides on the rear panel which is augmented by an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP Macro lens, none of which feature OIS.
Other features include:
- True Full Display thanks to the under-display camera technology
- 6.92” OLED Display, with 10 bit, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, and 90Hz refresh rate. FHD+ (2460×1080) and 20.5:9 aspect ratio screen for an immersive and vivid visual experience.
- The cutting edge 360° PDS antenna for fast and stable 5G connectivity.
- AI quad-camera for photography and 4K 60fps video recording with stabilization, HDR, and built-in Vlog filters.
With limited units available initially, those who join ZTE’s ‘New Vision Club‘ and perform certain tasks will be among the first to receive invite codes to purchase the Axon 20 5G in the limited-edition black version, as well as getting a pair of ZTE LiveBuds TWS earphones thrown in on top. If you are thinking that this feels a little like a OnePlus marketing campaign of old, you aren’t the only one.
First unveiled in China back in September, ZTE’s Axon 20 5G is now on sale globally but there’s no news on when or even if it will be released in the US or Australia. If you live in Europe or Asia, you can buy the Axon 20 5G directly from the ZTE store for $449/€449/£419 so long as you have a code from the campaign that finishes on December 27th.
