Just this week CEO of OnePlus, Pete Lau, announced the company is in the developmental stages of a new OnePlus smartphone series. This series—what we’re calling OnePlus Nord for now—is designed to offer consumers a OnePlus smartphone line at a more affordable price, without giving up the key features that make OnePlus so distinct.
OnePlus Nord: Never Settle
While information on the OnePlus Nord is limited at this time, Lau shared more about their motivation in creating a series of products like this, as well as some plans for the rollout. With OnePlus’ longtime motto, “Never Settle” at the forefront of everything their company does, Lau stated that this was the driving force behind the new product line. In an effort to branch out beyond what they’ve done so far, OnePlus is creating this line to expand their company’s reach into new markets, making their smartphones more accessible to more people.
Because a lighter-weight line is entirely new for OnePlus, Lau says “…we are going to start relatively small with this new product line by first introducing it in Europe and India.” He also mentioned they’d like to make something similar available in North America one day, but didn't indicate it would necessarily be the same product line. As for an official launch date, OnePlus' designated Instagram account for this line recently posted several different “crack-the-code” teaser photos, tipping followers to believe it'll be launched late July.
