A handful of new emoji have been announced with Unicode Emoji 13.0 being finalized. These new additions won't appear on your phone just yet, but they will likely be slated into any 2020 software updates you might be getting from your phone manufacturer.

117 new emoji

This update includes a total of 117 new emoji across totally new shapes and different gender and skin tones for certain existing designs. Some of the most fun additions, in my opinion, include:

  • Pinched fingers – great for talking about delicious pasta
  • Tamales – Mexican food is great
  • Lumber – making emoji more accessible for lumberjacks
  • Accordion – likely humanity's greatest instrument
  • Plunger – alerting your friends that you've made a mistake at a party
  • Heart & lungs – elevate your flirting to the next level

There are more gender inclusive options here, too, like a Mrs. Claus option, women in tuxedos, and some other options to give everyone a bit more flexibility in expressing themselves.

The design of all of these might change a bit by the time they hit your phone, but if you want to get a peek at some of the new designs, check it out at the link below.
