Google Home speakers can now stream ad-supported (and free) YouTube Music 4

Google is making their Google Home speakers even better right out of the box, and now you'll be able to stream music right away without setting anything else up or spending money.

Of course, you've pretty much always been able to do this with things like Spotify and Pandora, but now you have the Google way to listen.

YouTube Music's ad-supported, free tier of streaming is available on Google Home speakers. Simply yell at your friendly little smart speaker to play your favorite music and let Google Assistant take care of it for you. There will be ads, though, so keep that in mind.

If you opt for the better YouTube Music Premium experience, which costs $9.99 per month, you'll be able to stream specific songs and playlists on demand. That feature has been there, though; this announcement is mostly about the free stuff.

YouTube Music is still sorely lacking in features, and I don't know if this is going to be the thing that finally gets people on board, but at least it's a step in the right direction.

  1. Finally a music service for Google Home speaker which is free. Ads are annoying but to someone like me who listens to music via the home speakers only once or twice a week, this a great step forward in my opinion.
