Almost a month ago word got out about Huawei executives reviewing a product road map that suggested the company was going to brand the successor to the Huawei P10 as the Huawei P20. That bolstered an earlier report about Huawei registering a trademark for “P20”. Some additional research indicates Huawei may have ultimately decided to stick with the presumed name for their next flagship – the Huawei P11 – instead of trying to jump to P20 with the naming convention.
When the Huawei P20 trademark was discovered, the only place Huawei made that step was in the U.S. Sources have dug into the trademark and intellectual property offices for several other countries including the U.S., the U.K., Taiwan and Hong Kong. Across the board, the results have come back consistently with hits for P11 but not for P20.
The conclusion that may have come up with is that Huawei decided to stick with P11 for the successor to the P10. This apparent change in course could be due to some of their own internal marketing research. However, Huawei also suffered some recent setbacks like the loss of a new AT&T agreement for the U.S. market and a delay in launch that could have impacted their decision.
