HTC U11 owners could be in for a nice surprise as it seems that HTC is planning on upgrading the phone's Bluetooth capabilities. It seems that although the U11 launched with Bluetooth 4.2, its hardware is capable of supporting the latest version, Bluetooth 5.0.
According to Ausdroid, HTC will “enable Bluetooth 5.0 by software without any hardware change”. This is good news for HTC U11 owners because Bluetooth 5.0 uses less power than previous versions, offers twice the speed, and eight times the broadcast message capacity. You can also expect to have longer range and reduced interference with other wireless technologies.
It's unknown when HTC will flip the switch to begin the rollout of the software update that will enable Bluetooth 5.0 on the U11, but the Taiwanese handset maker has already made applications to the FCC to get the update approved for several SKU's, so it shouldn't be too long to wait.
Naturally, you'll need to be using devices compatible with Bluetooth 5.0 to take advantage of its new features, but hey, it's always a great thing when manufacturers upgrade your handset's capabilities after its release. Will the update to Bluetooth 5.0 make much of a difference to your experience with the HTC U11?
