Announced at a launch event in Beijing, the Xplay 5 smartphone becomes the world's first smartphone to come equipped with 6GB of RAM. On top of that, the gadget is arriving in the form of two different models, each offering a unique set of internals.

The Flagship model is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chip, starring 6GB of RAM and a mighty 128GB of internal storage. The top-tier handset also stars three OPA1612 amplifiers designed to make big improvements to audio quality.

Meanwhile, the regular version of the Xplay 5 ships with the Snapdragon 652 inside, this time offering 4GB of RAM but keeping the same internal storage figure as the “Flagship” model.

Both builds of the newly-announced smartphone come with a curved 5.43-inch display with QHD resolution (2,560 x 1,400 pixels). Each is powered by a hefty 3,600 mAh battery.

On the back of the device is a fingerprint reader, along with the 16MP main camera with phase detection auto-focus and dual-tone LED flash. On the front of the device, the second camera is almost as impressive, giving selfie addicts an 8MP snapper to play around with.

At the time of writing, it's unknown precisely when the “Flagship” edition or regular Xplay 5 model will land, although the regular build is now up for pre-order at about $560.
