For a long time, we've been able to get certain phones for free, provided we agree to a binding two-year contract. T-Mobile is taking free stuff to a new level this time, offering free data! Free data as long as you are trying to use Facebook, or Facebook services. That's right, users of T-Mobile’s GoSmart prepaid plans (which don't have data included in the first place), will be able to access Facebook through their browsers or through the app for free without having to pay for a separate data plan.
We haven't really seen something like this before, and it's interesting to see what kinds of deals could spring off of this in the future. You can check out the full press release past the break.
(Thomson Reuters ONE via COMTEX) — GoSmart Mobile Joins with Facebook to Deliver Free Unlimited Facebook for All Customers – Even if They Don't Have a Data Plan
T-Mobile prepaid brand becomes first U.S. wireless provider to offer unlimited Facebook to customers without monthly data with one of the simplest and most budget-friendly services
BELLEVUE, Wash. – Dec. 23, 2013 – Have you ever been notified that you've blown through your wireless data plan limits and can't connect with friends and family on Facebook over your phone?
That's just DUM(TM), and it's coming to an end.
T-Mobile US, Inc. TMUS +2.45% today announced that its rapidly growing GoSmart Mobile® prepaid wireless brand has joined with Facebook to become the first wireless provider in the United States to offer free access to Facebook and Facebook Messenger for all of its wireless customers, even those without monthly data service. Beginning in January, simply log-on from a browser or the Facebook application on your compatible phone, and you're good to go.
“Once again, T-Mobile is shaking up the wireless industry by offering unlimited Facebook for GoSmart customers with no strings attached,” said Doug Chartier, senior vice president of T-Mobile's GoSmart Mobile brand. “Customers love GoSmart because it's one of the simplest and most budget-friendly no annual contract options in wireless. The deal just got a whole lot sweeter.”
Nearly half of all Facebook users access the site from their mobile phones, according to Facebook. By joining together around this offering, GoSmart and Facebook aim to give more people in the United States the power to share and connect while mobile.
“Facebook's mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected, and we're delighted that GoSmart subscribers, many who don't have data access, will be able to use Facebook for free,” said Chris Daniels, vice president of partnerships at Facebook.
Since its introduction last March, GoSmart has quickly attracted hundreds of thousands of wireless customers with affordable, no annual contract plans that require no credit checks on a nationwide network starting at just $25 per month[i]. There are no DUM fees and no DUM caps. Just a simple, hassle-free monthly prepaid plan that makes it much easier for a wider group of people to participate in the wireless experience. And customers have the flexibility of bringing their own compatible and unlocked phones or purchasing one of several offered by GoSmart, all for less than $100 (taxes additional).
