Verizon Blocking Some Apps in Market from Being Downloaded or Updated

Verizon has frequently been referred to as Big Red, but apparently Big Brother is an apt moniker as well. Having made clear their stance on being able to download certain apps on their network, they’ve now moved to blocking those apps from being updated as well apparently. This includes apps that have been paid for, so be careful spending any of your hard earned cash on “questionable” apps. Of course, by this I mean besides the hard earned cash that you’re already paying the carrier that won’t let you download the apps in the first place. The good news is that there is a workaround by downloading or updating the app by turning off mobile data and updating via a wifi network. Has this happened to anyone? Let us know your thoughts and any tips you have in the comments.

That’s typical of Verizon or any of the Big Bloat carriers. They want to suck you dry of every available penny and they won’t stop at anything to do it. If you are thinking of going with one of these companies, do your research and find a better way!!!! Get yourself an unlocked Android phone (easily available for just over $100 on Amazon), get an independent carrier like Pure Talk or Page Plus, and then download GrooVe IP from the Android market. WiFi is so widely available these days that unless your business calls for it or you can’t live without guaranteed 24 hour a day Internet access, there’s no reason to pay for a forced data plan in addition to the ridiculous amounts these carriers charge for cell phone use. I had (HAD!) a plan thru Verizon w/forced data pkg, then bought my way out ($80), now have an unlocked Android, Pure Talk USA, and GrooVe – and it costs me between $10 – $20 a month for cell phone and Internet access. Of course it’s just Wifi for Internet, but that’s all I need personally. If you do your research, you can find lots of ways to control your own cell phone without Big Red/Big Brother/Big Bloat cell phone providers interfering with your wallet, your life, and your fun!
