Acer Iconia Tab A501 4G Set To Hit AT&T September 18th

AT&T announced today that the Acer Iconia Tab A501 will go on sale nationwide Sept. 18th. This HSPA+ Tegra-2 loaded tablet will be selling for $330 with a new two-year contract, or can be bought as a contract free 16GB version for $480. You should take note though that this isn’t an LTE device, so you’ll have to deal with AT&T’s slower speeds once their HSPA+ network hits your area.

Note that the A501 is essentially the A500 without carrier support (WiFi only). The A501 may be hard to swallow since Amazon has the A500 up right now for $363. If needing to be on a carrier network with your tablet is your thing, this could be a great choice. Who’s getting one?

    I purchased an a501 some the months ago. Mine is completely unlocked. (I guess some things are done differently here in Australia) I can drop in any data card from any carrier here and it works well. However, rather than purchasing another plan I tend to just tether my existing phone to the tablet. Ok, I know,I should have just purchased the wifi version but I got such a good deal I couldn’t pass it up.
    How do I like it? I love it. Its responsive, fast and the external full size USB is worth its weight in gold. Just recently I installed Skype and it worked very well in video mode.
    I’m sure there are some fine contenders out there, but I’m very satisfied with mine.
    Occasionally, when I see magazine reviews,I wonder whether there happens to be a bit of bias that creeps in.
    I’m now just waiting for the next update to come by. (ice cream sandwich towards the end of the year)
