There is no question that 2011 is an explosion year for tablets. With every tablet announcement there is always something that makes it just a little bit different than the others. Here comes Huawei with yet another. Apparantly they are coming out with the MediaTab which is a 7-inch tablet that will sport Android 3.2. UPDATE: This appears to have been a typo in the press release. The MediaTab will ship with Android 3.1.
This is the first we are hearing of 3.2 so what is the difference? According to Huawei this version of Android is designed to work on smaller tablet devices.
The MediaPad will come with a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor and will have a high pixel density (1024 x 600) display which will be 217ppi. This beats the Motorola XOOM and Apple IPad 2 which is 160ppi and 132ppi respectively.
Other features include support for 1080p over HDMI output, a 5-megapixel real camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, HSPA 3G at 14.4Mb/s, Bluetooth 2.1, and 802.11n WiFi. There are no plans for a WiFi only model.
Pricing was not made available, but they are planning a fall release.
