Verizon: Yes, the HTC Thunderbolt has 4G issues; Yes, we’ll be fixing it

Anyone with an HTC Thunderbolt notice anything strange with their LTE connection? Maybe the fact that you might be missing the “LTE” part at times you shouldn’t be? Well, if so, you aren’t alone. In fact, users from all over where there should be LTE – including Ft Lauderdale, Atlanta, Dallas, Minneapolis, Fremont, Irvine, Phoenix, Jacksonville and Los Angeles – are reporting issues with the same thing.

According to reports, LTE will disconnect randomly, and then reconnect 5-10 seconds later. Verizon – thankfully – has acknowledged the issue as real, and have stated that there will be an OTA update to remedy the issue coming soon.

Have you experienced this issue with your Thunderbolt? Do you think Verizon can fix it? Let us know in the comments.

Personally in Rochester NY up until some time around 1 week ago i had 15-30mb down & 15-25 mb up. :D . But as of recently i see download speeds consistently in the 5mb or lower realm, and uploads in the 3mb and lower (down to about 600 kbps. But with the uploads you see it spike to 20mb then get dropped back to 3mb… Throttling?
As for disconnection, I have had it where your bars drop out for a short period of time and come back. and also where 4g just will not connect (normally i sit there and reboot and stuff so i don’t know how long it really last for)
I don’t think its an issue of if they can fix the issue just when, and how long b4 we got 2.3, or hell CM7 for the Tbolt for the matter.

I have the exact problem. I already did all the troubleshootings and a factory reset but it didn’t solve the problem with the 4G Lte connection. When the icon is missing whoch could be 10 seconds to 2-3 minutes; there is actually no network connection. Voice works but there is no data.

Spoke to a Level 2 tech and observed the phone in different locations, mid-town manhattan and brooklyn for 2 days but the problem was there in both locations.

I got a replacement phone yesterday, but it is doing the same thing on the new phone. Now though, it mostly stays on 3G and even that connection is lost as it did with 4G. I downloaded the lte 4G switch to force “LTE only” but now I only have voice with no data… So, there was nothing wrong with the old phone…

This has to be fixed soon. It is just unacceptable.

Verizon and HTC are aware of the issues with the Thunderbolt and are working on an OTA – which is coming soon. Although no official date has been set, the official RUU is said to have been leaked online. Read more here: http://eugeneorourke.com/go/1568
