Swype coming to all Android phones 2

Swype has been in the touchscreen keyboard market for a while now. If you've done a little searching for 3rd party software keyboards, you've most likely seen or heard Swype.  Or maybe you haven't, because it hasn't been available for all Android phones (six actually), well today, that has changed.

Swype's keyboard allows input by swiping your fingers through the letters of each word instead of typing them out individually. What's great about this (and Android) is that the app isn't just limited to smartphones. It can easily be used in any device with a software keyboard. Such options are what makes the Android platform so great. This is something that the iPhone (and iPad) can never enjoy based on current App Store rules. It's just more proof how having an open platform allows Android and its developers to innovate in ways that the iSystem can't.

Look for Swype in the app store now or via their homepage.

Update 2: Ok, well it appears that Swype still won't be in the market place, but the BETA is open for all Android phones. Head on over to https://beta.swype.com/ to sign up and download the beta. And you may have to try the site a few times, I've had problems with it timing out.

Update: It seems that nobody can find Swype to download. I've just contacted Swype regarding the issue, so let's see what their response is.

  1. Wow. They flood the market with advertising on this app. Multiple blogs review it and build up the hype. Then they yank it from the Market. That’s got to be one of the dumbest things they could do. What’s next, boys? You gonna set your offices on fire?

  2. Weird, I don’t know what to tell you. I’ve contacted Swype regarding the issue.

And Jay, if you’re going to dish out insults, at least be sure to get your uses of “sight” and “site” correct ;)

  3. Hey everyone! I’m the beta community relations rep for Swype and I just wanted to let everyone know that if you’re having ANY problems with the installation process, you can send us an email at androidbeta@swype.com and we’ll be happy to help you work through any issues you have.

Also, we’re not on the Android Market, so you’ll have to register at to receive your copy.

  4. Not finding it. Either it hasn’t been updated in the Market yet or, more likely, this is once again another example of an Android sight that doesn’t have its version info straight. Perhaps the post title should be “Swype coming to all Android phones that aren’t running 1.5”.
