Google Home Max now available through major retailers

When Google announced the launch of new Google Assistant powered smart speaker devices like the Google Home Mini this fall, one that was still quite ready for the market was the Google Home Max. Many have been wondering when the device would be available for buyers to order. That day has arrived as Google announced the Google Home Max is now for sale through the Google Store, Best Buy, Verizon and Walmart.

The Google Home Max is like Google’s other Home devices in that it lets one use the Google Assistant AI technology to complete tasks or control other devices. That control includes being able to do things like serve up content on Chromecast powered devices. The Home Max differs from the Home Mini and the Home in that there is much more of a focus on delivering a better audio experience.

Google has equipped the Home Max with a pair of 4.5-inch high-excursion woofers and two 0.7-inch tweeters to deliver some booming sound. According to Google, the Home Max is up to 20 times louder than the regular Home. To help make sure the sound is maximized from a quality standpoint, Google includes “Smart Sound” technology so the unit will constantly tune itself to the room where it is located to produce a better audio experience. This is an ongoing process, so even if you move the Home Max it will adjust itself to a new location.

Other hardware includes powerful far-field microphones that Google says can pick up and recognize your voice from across the room, even when the music is blaring. When combined with other devices through the Google Home app, users can deliver content throughout their home. Google says a pair of Home Max units can be joined together to produce stereo sound as well.

The Home Max will be available in two colors – Chalk and Charcoal. Google notes that the Home Max has been designed so that the unit can sit vertically or horizontally depending on a user’s needs. Retail pricing for the Home Max is $399 through all of the retailers.
