Facebook debuts “Live Location” for Messenger

Facebook is rolling out a new “Live Location” feature to its Messenger app on Android and iOS.

Live Location allows you to share you location with friends and family in real-time. It’s fairly similar to something Google Maps recently rolled out. Here’s how it works on Android:

“For Android, tap the Location icon or tap the More icon and then select Location. You’ll see a map of your current location and the option to tap a blue bar to share your Live Location for 60 minutes. Just like on iOS, you’ll have the option to stop sharing your Live Location by tapping Stop Sharing, and you’ll see how much longer you’re sharing your Live Location for via a small count down clock in the lower right hand corner of the map.”

Live Location has the potential to be a really useful tool. If you’re running late somewhere, you can easily share your location in real-time to show your friends or family where you’re at. It has the potential to be helpful in emergency situations, too.

If you don’t want to share your “Live Location,” that’s fine, too. Facebook Messenger still allows you to share a static point on the map.

If you haven’t gotten the update yet, be sure to hit the download link below.
