For the moment, Google sits at the top of the food chain in most markets in terms of smartphone processors thanks to the Snapdragon 821 that the new Pixel and Pixel XL come equipped with. However, the industry is definitely not static and already more devices are lining up to join that party in offering the latest, fastest, most powerful processor available from Qualcomm. Before the end of the month consumers should be able to get their hands on the new ASUS Zenfone 3 Deluxe if the Pixel phones did not strike their fancy.
In addition to the Snapdragon 821 processor, ASUS is packing in 6GB of RAM in the Zenfone 3 Deluxe and memory can be expanded to 256GB. The device also gets a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen, but it is only running at 1080p HD resolution. In terms of the camera, which appears to be one of the strong points for the Pixel phones, the ASUS Zenfone 3 Deluxe is getting a new camera from Sony, the Exmor RS IMX318 sensor, capable of grabbing a 23MP shot. This will be the first device to hit the market with the new sensor, so it will be interesting to see how it compares to what is already available.
One slight advantage that the ASUS smartphone may have over the new Google Pixel phones is the price. The top of the line ASUS Zenfone 3 Deluxe will sell for $799 in the U.S. where it is expected to be available before the end of October. That is a slight savings over the top of the line Pixel XL with 128GB of internal storage.
