Searching for a new phone? Sony's Xperia X Compact might just be for you. The phone is now up for pre-order in the United States on Amazon, but it's not priced as low as we had hoped.
The Xperia X Compact, which you can get in three colors, is preparing for release around the world. Online retailer Amazon is currently accepting pre-orders for phone that is priced at $499. Included is a $50 credit at checkout and the order is eligible for Amazon Prime's free two-day shipping.
Amazon says the Sony phone's release date is September 25.
The Xperia X Compact features a 4.6-inch (1280×720) IPS LCD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 23MP / 5MP cameras, and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Nougat on the way. It's a nice setup, but Sony's $499 price tag isn't very friendly. Devices competing in this upper mid-range segment, including the Moto Z Play from Lenovo, cost $449 and less while offering a better value.
For the U.S. model, the fingerprint scanner is missing which is likely a patent-related matter.
Being that the company's mobile division is going about business with no real strategy, it's hard for us to recommend any Xperia devices.
If you dare, you can place and order and wait for your Xperia X Compact to arrive next week. Just don't be surprised if Sony announces another batch of new phones right after this one is released.
