Tom's Guide have reviewed all the US mobile carriers and come to the conclusion that T-Mobile is the best of the bunch. Their testing goes beyond just general service in your area, but also customer service, phone selection, plans, and any extra special features.
After testing, each section would be scored differently depending on how important it is to consumers. For example “Performance”, which is basically speeds and coverage, is weighted higher at 50 points compared to something not as important like “Special Feature” which is only worth 5 points.
You can see the points scored by all carriers in the picture above. T-Mobile did not win every category hands down, but it did come out the overall winner. Barely beating out the largest US carrier, Verizon Wireless. The key to the win was slightly better plans and special features.
If you would like to see a full break down of the scoring or exactly what each category details, head to Tom's Guide. They also go over the pros and cons of each carrier. T-Mobile's cons are things like “performance outside of cities still lags Verizon, AT&T; Finished behind other major carriers in customer support testing”.

Doesnt surprise me, tmo have been great to us. We’ve been tmo customers since the Voicestream days. Although we did try sprint for less than 24 hours before returning the phones and cancelling our contract (thankfully we didn’t port our phone numbers). We’ve always found their coverage, voice and data, to be excellent, especially around major metro areas. But I’ve recently run into a lack of data coverage in Casper and central Wy. Seems like they don’t have data access in the Union Wireless zones, nor a data sharing contract with Union. I understand not wanting to build out in an area of little population. Fortunately voice works well and I have access to wifi in most places when I’m out there.
Traveling this summer on vacation I learned that Verizon coverage is far superior to T-Mobile. There are areas along US95 that there is no T-Mobile coverage at all. Verizon coverage was the whole east coast T-Mobile not so much
Well, Verizon is a much larger company. T-Mobile’s coverage is still quite large if you check out the map on their website. This goes over more than just coverage however.
I know. just surprised they didn’t have full coverage along the most traveled highway in the country. Their website map is a little over zealous.
Lol ya, I’m sure it is. I’m in Canada and our version of T-Mobile is called Wind. Their map shows it covers a huge range, but you’re lucky to get single in half of it.
