Several Google Wallet users have started to report that they are finding $5 “treats” in the app when they open it. The surprises consist of gift cards to various vendors for “being a loyal Wallet user.” It is not clear how Google is selecting the users to receive the gifts as some indicate they have not been using Wallet and others are heavy users, even participating in a current promo to get a gift when you buy a gift.

The vendors that have been identified so far include Regal Cinemas, AMC Theaters, Staples, Whole Foods, and Toys R Us, which closely overlaps with the promo Google has going on. The current distribution could be some glitch with that promo.

If you want to see if you happened to get one of these treats from Google, just open the Google Wallet app and look for the “Have a treat on Google!” message.

  1. I have $5 for Whole Foods, don’t think I’ve set foot in one of their stores in more than 20 years (back then it was called Mrs. Gooch’s – https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/company-info/whole-foods-market-history#mrsgooch) so I don’t think I’ll take advantage of this offer.
