We already have a good idea the Galaxy S 5 will sport a 2K (2,560 x 1,440) display, so if a rumor suggests a Samsung phone with this display, I think it's safe to assume it's a Galaxy S 5. Korean media suggests that this “Galaxy S 5” will be unveiled at Mobile World Congress this February 2014.

We have also heard that Samsung might be dropping plans for a fingerprint scanner in favor of eye (or iris) scanning technology, and the same media source is agreeing. However, they weren't clear if it will be on the same phone that gets shown at MWC or another device(s) later in the year. I suspect it will indeed by on the Galaxy S 5 and other flagship devices as well.

The only thing that I am not agreeing with this report is this phone debuting at MWC. Samsung didn't unveil the Galaxy 3 III nor the Galaxy S 4 at MWC. The reason is they usually want to have a separate event for their main flagship phone. I will be surprised if they go this route, but I guess I won't be shocked.

  1. why the fucking stupid resolution?
even 1080p is a bit overkill on 5″ phones. all this resolution will do is waste battery, ram and gpu power.

  2. I agree entirely. Finger (or palm…?) recognition software makes more sense to me too. I would like to see a back panel that can read a palm print.

  3. This seems cool until you realize how shitty the cameras are in low light. The thing that makes the 5s fingerprint scanner cool is that you press a button you press anyway to use the feature, at no further inconvenience to you. While I personally am fine with typing in a passcode, obviously these futuristic features are still cool, but I fear that an iris scanner will just be terrible in low light conditions, which let’s face it, we’re regularly in. So I’m skeptical of that feature even mattering if they actually launch a phone with it installed. Any thoughts?

    1. Surely if they went with an iris scanner they would think to stick a led light on the front of the phone. Just nothing to high powered. Dont want people being blinded. But as always with this sort of stuff, I think itll be cool for first few days, Then people will just go back to havn a passcode. I know few friends with the iphone and theyve all said the fingerprint scanner is more of a hassle than a help. Sure maybe in a few models time, when it works flawlessly, but for now I view it more as a sample of whats to come.

  4. Every year since the Galaxy S2, there’s always rumors that Samsung will unveil the next Galaxy flagship at MWC. It’s not happening, people. it’ll be at an unpacked event, guaranteed
