So you just bought a new smartphone with a beautiful 1080p display. Looks nice doesn't it? Chinese manufacturer, Vivo, doesn't think it's good enough and they know you are yearning for something better. How does a 2,560 x 1,440 display strike your fancy? That's exactly what Vivo is teasing with their upcoming Xplay3S smartphone. That's a 2K display, and many will argue that it's so unnecessary, including me. To be honest, I don't think the average consumer can tell the difference between 720p (1280 x 720) and 1080p (1920 x 1080) on a smartphone, so will they care about 2,560 x 1,440?

Yes, the spec war is really starting to get a little ridiculous, but there are always people who want to say they have the “best”. I, on the other hand, think what Motorola is doing with the Moto X is refreshing: Give users a great experience with features that are useful. In the end, I can't blame Vivo, they are just trying to be the first because you know that Samsung, LG, and HTC aren't far behind from offering something similar.

  1. tbh i don’t even think 1080p is necessary or even worth it. i’d take a 900p screen over that on 5′ phones anyday. would look pretty much the same but with a considerably lower impact on performance.
it’s ridiculous how some stuff runs better on a galaxy s3 than on the s4 because of the resolution.
