The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Wallpaper [Review] 3

Let's face it, you love your live wallpapers— especially if they're running on premium devices. Many Android owners love the fact there's plenty of options when it comes to choosing a unique live wallpaper which enhances the overall Android experience. While it is true that many live wallpaper skins may be sluggish because of a slower processor and/or using a resource-hogging custom UI skin or launcher, there are indeed a handful of gems available just ready to be sought out and downloaded by users. This is especially true if you find a gem that is specifically optimized for your device. That's what happened to me last month when I was browsing around and stumbled upon The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim wallpaper, which is optimized for Tegra-based devices. Read on to see what's unique about the wallpaper and why it deserves a look or two.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm lifelong fan of the Elder Scrolls series and a proud owner of both the Motorola Atrix 4G and a Motorola Xoom tablet which each feature you guessed it, a Tegra 2 processor. So when I went into the TegraZone and found this wallpaper quietly buried between all of the available games, I had to check it out and use it on my phone and tablet. What really caught my eye is the detail in the wallpaper. It's a gorgeous piece to behold with the beautiful mountains and valley in the background, the fog overlooking the horizon and a stunning warrior appearing right in your face, ready for battle. You can see the carves in his armor and individual hairs of his fur coat among other things. That's just the tip of the iceberg, upon selecting the wallpaper from your wallpaper settings, you'll see the individual breaths from his mouth as well as the clouds move and snow falls. It's a pretty solid presentation and because the wallpaper is designed specifically for Tegra 2 or Tegra 3 devices, there's minimal— if not zero– slowdown, especially when scrolling through your different homescreens or app drawer.

While the wallpaper is quite a doosy, there are a few things that would have be greatly welcomed. For starters, while you see the breaths from the warrior's mouth and snow falling in real-time, you almost wish there was more to the wallpaper. Why isn't he blinking or why aren't there any other moving objects in the background? The Tegra-based processors can easily handle more detail so it's curious that both Nvidia and Bethesda kept the wallpaper so ‘simple'. Also, it would have been very much welcomed if there was the ability to see the background change along with the time of the day for example— maybe see the wallpaper in a nighttime setting perhaps?

Those are just minor nitpicks for an otherwise stellar wallpaper. If you're a Tegra 2 or Tegra 3 owner, please do give this app a shot and download it today. It's definitely worth a spot on your Tegra-based device. The wallpaper is roughly 1MB in size and you can find it in the TegraZone, Android Market or using the QR link below.

  1. I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi and it isn’t even available for me (Tegra 2).  What is also lame is that I couldn’t “email the developer”.  NVidia is hiding I guess (I was trying to find a way to email them via the web version of the android market).

I ended up posting something on one of NVidia’s twitter accounts

  2. So they release a wallpaper with an image and some snow falling, and you have to have a Tegra to even install it?  Thanks, Nvidia.
