Hands on with OnLive Desktop for Android [Video] 5

We had a chance to sit down with OnLive CES Steven Perlman. He showed off the OnLive gaming suite earlier, but many of you might not be aware of their PC cloud application called OnLive Desktop. Bascially it's a remote desktop, but the desktop is virtual and in the cloud with all of your files. Using your Android tablet, you can easily open applications you wouldn't normally be able to like PowerPoint presentations with video. It even has it's own web browser which means you will be able to go to any web page you can on your desktop. For example, web pages that are powered by Silverlight. Then there is the ability to bring up really expensive and sophisticated applications like Maya from Autodesk, which would cost you about $6,000 to purchase, but it's available to Onlive Pro users as part of the package.

OnLive does offer a free service that includes 2GB of storage with preloaded versions of Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. They do offer OnLive Desktop Pro which costs $9.99 per month and includes 50GB of storage and the ability to add additional applications like Maya. An Enterprise solution is coming soon. We were very impressed with the performance and service offerings. Checkout our hands on video.

  1. Hi Robert! Can this app, onlive desktop run on the  Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. without Internet or wifi? Like day I want to do some work on a Microsoft document on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.  using the onlive desktop but I don’t have access to any wifi or 3G, does the app still work and save the document ?

  2. This is just what I wanted to see. Thank you. Other vids showing this on an iPad but now I know how this will work on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. This is going to change the game for visual designers to be able to load up design software like Illustrator, etc. 2012 here we go…..!
