Some Pixel 10 Pro owners are getting an unexpected second year of Google AI Pro for free. A Reddit user reported redeeming a 12-month Google AI Pro trial, which includes 5TB of storage, after their original one-year bundle had already expired.
The offer appeared in the My Pixel app, and the same user's parents (also day-one Pixel 10 Pro buyers) redeemed the offer as well. Other owners of the phone model even shared finding it instead in the Google One app. The Pixel 10 Pro XL appears to be included, though no Pixel 10 Pro Fold owners have seen it yet.
It's unlikely that the standard Pixel 10 and Pixel 10a qualify since they launched with different freebies. The offer also appears to be region-specific, with the US most likely included. If you're in that region, check your both apps now to take advantage of the plan.
Google's premium plans offer more for every user
Google AI Pro is a premium subscription tier that bundles 5TB of cloud storage across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos with access to Google's most capable AI features.
That includes the full Gemini Advanced model, longer context windows, and priority access to new AI tools as they roll out. It costs $20 per month or $200 annually.
The Pixel 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, and 10 Pro Fold all launched with a free 12-month trial of the plan bundled in, which is what is now expiring for day-one buyers and triggering this unexpected second-year extension for some.
Personally, the student tier of Google AI Pro gave me a window into what the subscription delivers day to day. The Gemini Advanced access is the most compelling part because of the difference in response quality and reasoning depth over the free tier. Believe me, it's noticeable.
The 5TB storage is also worth subscribing for, but that's where it gets complicated. If you're not a heavy Google Photos user or someone constantly working across large Drive files, 5TB is more space than most people will fill in a lifetime.
You have many AI options
For Pixel 10 owners whose first bonuses are almost over, a couple of workarounds are circulating. I noticed an active promo on a secondary account myself but never claimed the extra trial.
Google AI Pro has a student tier available through Google One, and a valid school email address or student ID is enough to qualify for it. But it's not guaranteed. Google could block your attempt for many reasons, especially if you already tried before and have familiar information tied to your account.
Gemini's free tier still covers a lot of ground for everyday use, or you could try alternative tools. For research specifically, Perplexity is free and cites its sources visibly, which makes it more reliable than Gemini's free tier for anything where you need to verify what you are reading.
Claude also has a generous free tier and is frequently rated ahead of Gemini on writing and nuanced reasoning in independent 2026 benchmark comparisons. NotebookLM, which is Google's own free tool, is worth using for document-based research since it lets you upload sources and chat with them directly at no cost.
