Not all chargers are built equally and if you recently bought the Nintendo Switch 2, that matters more than you think. The game company has confirmed that third-party adapters, even the original charger for the Switch 1, may power your console in handheld mode. But they'll fail entirely in TV or docked mode.
That’s because the Switch 2 requires a higher, stable power output to run through the dock and display on your wider screen. Choosing the right adapter matters to get the best possible speed while preventing overheating. The Switch 2 already comes with one, but you may want a second charger for your desk setup, or for any other reason. Here are the products you should be using for your device.

Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter
$34.99
The official Nintendo Switch 2 adapter is the most dependable option. Buy it if you want zero compatibility issues and the same quality assurance that comes straight from the source. It's the exact same charger that comes in the box with the device, which means it was specifically designed and optimized for the power demands. The charger itself is a matte black rectangular block with a built-in USB-C cable and a sturdy plug. The cable is thick, durable, and long enough for most setups.

Belkin Dual USB-C GaN charger
$59.99
Belkin’s 65W charger delivers 50% charge in 28 minutes with an included cable. When you use one port, you get up to 65W. Use both ports and it splits power into 45W + 20W, which is still enough for your Steam Deck or phone while topping up your Switch 2. Plus, Belkin is a USB-IF certified brand and uses reliable GaN chips that pass safety standards for voltage, heat dissipation, and PD protocols. The charger won’t damage your console, even under heavy load.
Anker Nano 100W charger
$44.99
A 100W charger might sound like overkill for the Switch 2 when the console only needs around 39 to 45 watts to charge properly. But USB Power Delivery (PD) is a smart system. The wattage written on the charger is the maximum it can provide and not what it forces into every device. Anker's Nano 100W charger adjusts automatically to safely deliver only what’s required to your console.
Nekteck 65W GaN II charger
$28.88
Enjoy a more rounded design than what most boxy charger designs provide. The Nekteck 65W GaN II charger uses Gallium Nitride technology, which produces less heat and allows the internal components to be packed more efficiently. Hence, the large reduction in size. It comes with a foldable plug and an efficient USB-IF certified E-Marker cable.
Topadre 65W USB-C charger
$17.99
One charger to rule them all. The Topadre 65W GaN charger features two USB-C ports and one USB-A port to power three devices at once. The ports run fast, while also identifying what each device needs to adjust output accordingly.

Switch your gaming power to the next level
As aforementioned, the Nintendo Switch 2 requires very specific power delivery to function safely especially in docked mode. Since not all third-party chargers or docks provide that correctly, you risk corrupting the Switch’s firmware or damaging the internal charging chip.
The best solution is to stick with the official Nintendo dock and charger when using TV mode. If you’re using a third-party charger, connect it only directly to the console in handheld mode, never through the dock. You should be fine with this setup in the long run.
