Oppo and OnePlus are two smartphone OEMs underneath the same parent company, if you didn't already know, and as a result, some devices released by Oppo are later released by OnePlus under a new name, with most specs remaining intact. OnePlus also has some series that it keeps exclusive to China and rebrands for the rest of the world.
This year, we're expecting the OnePlus Ace 5V to serve as a rough template for the OnePlus Nord 5, and we're expecting the Oppo Find N5 to be almost 1:1 for the OnePlus Open 2. If you've been looking forward to OnePlus' next Nord or foldable, some new details have arrived.
The OnePlus Nord 5 Could Have An Enormous 7,000mAh Battery And A New Dimensity Chip
Over in China, OnePlus has its Ace series of smartphones, which can be compared most closely to the OnePlus Nord series that the rest of the world gets to enjoy. Last year, the OnePlus Ace 3V was the closest device to the OnePlus Nord 4 that international buyers eventually got. Next in line is the Ace 5V—which will likely be the template for the OnePlus Nord 5—and we've just gotten several details on the upcoming phone.
The OnePlus Ace 5V is expected to come toting the Dimensity 9350, an unannounced chip that is expected to serve as a sort of “Dimensity 9300++“, according to Digital Chat Station. That would put it in the ranks of flagship chips, which would mean a lot more performance than we expect from most Nord phones.
It will have a flat display with a 1.5K max resolution and thin bezels, but that's something that we could guess simply because it is 2025. However, while we could expect a big battery, we didn't expect a rumored 7,000mAh cell. That's a lot of juice, even for the most recent flagships using silicon-based batteries. At least that shows that OnePlus meant it when they said they were looking at batteries that big for this year.
The Oppo Find N5, The Template For The OnePlus Open 2, Has Been Certified In Multiple Regions
Oppo has released multiple foldables, while OnePlus has just released one. However, the OnePlus Open was essentially identical to the Oppo Find N3. That makes it a pretty safe gamble to assume that the Oppo Find N5 will be the basis for whatever we get for the OnePlus Open 2 that we've been waiting so long for.
We know that the Oppo Find N5 is coming thanks to it being spotted in certification databases in Malaysia and Indonesia, and even a camera database. We expected a Q1 launch for Oppo's next foldable, but this makes that pretty redoubtable. The OnePlus rebrand should follow a few months later. Both are expected with a Snapdragon 8 Elite, a 5,900mAh battery, and 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.
Thanks to its entry in the Camera FV 5 database, we're expecting the OnePlus Open 2 to come with a 50MP primary unit (quad-binned to 12.6MP as listed in the database). The selfie camera should be 32MP, likely cropped and binned down to the 7.1MP stated in the database.
