There's a company out there that has worked with Google to ensure that the Android 2.3 (aka Gingerbread) will be NFC (near field communication) ready. Now I'm not going to explain to you kids again what that means exactly, so read it here – Analysis shows, 1 in 5 smartphones will have NFC by 2014.

This company, NXP Semiconductors has stated that Google always tells them to double the numbers expected. From that statement, looks like this goes for all things in Android development.

NXP CEO Rick Clemmer –

Every time we talk to our friends at Google, they tell us to double the numbers for the Android expectations.

Whether it's 40 million or 100 million units to be sold, that's a lot of NFC enabled devices compared to the single Android device, Nexus S, and the latest BlackBery  Bold 9900 that are in existence today, sporting NFC. We'll just watch, and as fast as Android is gaining ground these days, you can't deny that Google just might know what they are talking about.
