Google's deadline is here: no more YouTube on Fire TV and Echo Show 2

Google previously announced that they'd be pulling support for YouTube on some of Amazon's devices, and even though some reports popped up that it happened early, today's the official day that you'll lose your YouTube app on the Fire TV and Echo Show. That's bad news for anyone that used Google's streaming service, but there's a workaround.

The YouTube app won't work, and there's pretty much nothing you can do about it, but the YouTube service itself is fine. So if you really need to use it, you can fire up Amazon's Silk browser or Firefox and hit up YouTube that way. It's not ideal, and you likely won't get feature parity by using a web app, but it's better than nothing.

In the meantime, let's just hope Amazon and Google can get something worked out that doesn't involve putting customers in the crossfire.

  1. Only thing missing in the Firefox Youtube app is cast. Else it’s basically Youtube TV app.
But cast is a feature I miss. Hope they stop these petty plays and work something out.
