In 2015, Alcatel's Idol 3 burst onto the scene as one of the best off-contract phones for anyone wanting to unchain themselves from carriers without compromising the quality expected from a flagship. The price of the phone has always been very attractive at $279, but Amazon currently has the Idol 3 for an even better price.

Amazon is selling the Idol 3 for just $179. That's even less than Motorola's Moto G (2015), so this is really a deal you should be considering for yourself or someone else if in the market for an affordable upgrade. The Idol 3 has a a 5.5-inch Full HD Technicolor IPS display, Snapdragon 615, 2GB of RAM, 13MP / 8MP cameras, and a beefy 2910mAh battery sitting within a comfortable body. Alcatel has its own software overlay sitting above Lollipop, though it's pretty close to stock Android.

The discount likely occurred now because Alcatel, which underwent rebranding from the old Alcatel OneTouch name, recently announced the Idol 4 series. The Idol 4 and Idol 4S raise the bar with metal frames, glass backs, and updated specifications.
