Law enforcement in the United States has expressed concern regarding the safety of police officers and users of Waze. The app, which was acquired by Google in 2013, allows users to report the location of accidents, construction, and police officers. Law enforcement is concerned with the latter of the three because of the opportunity Waze provides for users to closely watch police officers. Essentially, the problem is that Wazer users can stalk and act against them.

There has yet to be any proof of a crime against police officers connected to Waze. Only speculation has fueled one recent instance. The shooting of two New York City police officers on December 20 has been connected to Waze by Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Black. The perpetrator allegedly had screenshots of police officers' locations from Waze; however, the phone was disposed away from the crime scene.

  1. hahaha.. Big Brother has always been watching… now little sis is fighting back… I have police friends, this is the least of their concerns….

  2. Ohhhh, yeahhhh riiiiight. Might as well feel threaten by servailence cameras and webcameras, or perhaps atm cameras and people with smartphones…. All they warry about, is making a set budget they have two write out in tickets to drivers during a day per squatcar. The only difference, between pigs and cops in Ukraine, is that the first rarely take bribes and the former a more human and you can as a man to man, tell him hi is a c…t.

  3. Funny how a few cops ruin it for all of them. For the few % (still a high number when you’re talking %) of cops that are douche bags and abuse their power, they cause this problem. If cops can monitor us, we can monitor them…sorry boys in blue.
