Qualcomm has revealed two new chips at CES 2014, with one of them being aimed at smart TV's and the other for use in cars.

The Snapdragon 602A is designed to meet the standards of the automotive industry – standards that include temperature, quality, longevity and reliability. It also has a quad core Krait CPU and an Adreno 320 GPU. Furthermore, the Snapdragon 602A supports 3G/4G-LTE and dual-band 802.11ac WiFi via Qualcomm's Gobi and VIVE systems. These features mean that the chip will be able to be used for things like 3D navigation and for use of cloud based services such as music streaming. The chip also supports Android out of the box, as well as the QNX car infotainment platform, QNX Car.

The other chip, the Snapdragon 802 is aimed at Ultra HD smart TV's and smart set top boxes, and is Qualcomm's first fully integrated SoC (System on a Chip). It features a 1.8 GHz quad core Krait CPU that's coupled with an Adreno 330 GPU. The chip also features Qualcomm's Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) processing engine which allows for 1080p video to be displayed at close to Ultra HD levels. The chip features a Hexagon DSP for Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound. Lastly, the Snapdragon 802 has dual-band (2.4 and 5GHz) 802.11ac support for the AllJoyn framework, which was originally developed by Qualcomm and is now in possession of the AllSeen Alliance, and allows for capabilities such as device discovery, user notification and audio streaming for playback on multiple speakers.

Both the Snapdragon 602A and the Snapdragon 802 will make their way into commercial devices sometime this year, though we know that the 802 won't be until late 2014.
