This app may be more useful for some than for others, but it's useful nonetheless. Barcode Generator makes generating QR codes incredibly quick and easy. You can generate barcodes for:
- Calendar Event
- Contact Information
- Email address
- Geo Location
- Phone Number
- SMS
- Text (which is what I used to generate the QR code above)
- URL
- WiFi network (choices for encryption are WEP, WPA/WPA2 and none)
I can think of multiple examples of how I would use each one, but it would take awhile to type them all out. Probably the best and “coolest” example would be the WiFi network ability. How much easier would this be: your friends come to your house. Instead of telling them your SSID and password, just have them scan your QR code. That way, you can eliminate the possibility of them typing in the wrong password two or three times, and you getting frustrated and telling them “just forget it, use your data plan.”
Pretty cool, eh? Not only can you generate barcodes, but the app has the ability to share them as well. For example, on my phone, after I generate a barcode, I can share it via:
- Barcode reader
- Bluetooth
- Gmail
- Messaging
- Picasa
- Seesmic
- WordPress
In addition to its generating and sharing abilities, this app will read any saved barcodes on your device as well. I'm not really sure how useful this particular feature could be, but I can see using it every now and again.
