Very interesting. I have thought for years public terminals and the potential they might have keyloogers were a major concern. This is an elegant solution. Though probably the people savvy enough to do this are also unlikely to need a public terminal ;)

Too true Erik. Too true lol.

Very cool and worked when I tested it.  The advantage I can see are using longer and even more complicated passwords so you don’t have to type the bloody things in every time even on your own or work machines.

The flip side as Erik points out is my phone and tab would probably prevent me from ever needing a public terminal again…..

Seems as though this was only a test. I now get the following message when visiting the url:

Hi there – thanks for your interest in our phone-based login experiment. While we have concluded this particular experiment, we constantly experiment with new and more secure authentication mechanisms.Stay tuned for something even better!Dirk Balfanz, Google Security Team.

Of course, if you have an Android phone with this login info already, why would you need to use this login method? I just use 2-step authentication. Sure, it’s a little bit of a hassle, but I would venture that it is more secure than the barcode.
