While we have know for a little while that Sony wouldn’t be releasing an Xperia Z6, there was still the question of whether Sony would completely discontinue the Xperia Z line altogether. Well know we have an answer to that question. To the possible discontent of long term Sony Fans, the Xperia Z series of Sony devices has been officially discontinued in favor of the newly minted Xperia X lineup.

The Official statement from Sony on the Xperia Z termination reads,

“The Xperia Z line has reached its culmination – Xperia X series represents a new chapter and evolution of our product strategy. Whilst the Xperia Z series was all about bringing the best of Sony’s advanced technologies to smartphones, Xperia X series is based on bringing smart, adaptive Sony user experiences across camera, battery performance and hardware / software design.”

I’m sure many of you long term Xperia Z fans are going to be upset, but hey look at the bright side, maybe things are going to be even better with Sony’s new Xperia X line of phones. They sure have made it seem like they are going to try even harder to break out in the North American market with these phones. Here’s to hoping they succeed.
