We first spotted Acer’s affordable 7-inch Iconia B1 tablet last month, where it was rumored the device would launch globally at a staggering $99 price point. Well, new information has leaked out today suggesting the device would in fact launch as the Iconia B this month. The tablet is slated to make its world debut in India for 7,999 INR, which equates to around $150 US, a bit more than originally rumored.

If you’re unfamiliar, the Acer Iconia B  runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and sports a 7-inch 1024 x 600 display, a 1.2-GHz dual-core MediaTek processor and 512MB of RAM. Users will also get 8GB of on board storage with expansion available through the included micro SD slot.

Okay, being an Indian I must say this is a pretty decent buy. There are other local manufacturers selling tablets with lame/unflattering hardware, but this one seems to be alright. It’s reassuring that the tablet is made by Acer which specializes in Notebooks and PCs. Let’s see how the device fares here. I’m still a little edgy on the MediaTek SoC though, but well, it’s only $150 :)
