Draw Something: This Social Drawing and Guessing Game is Highly Addicting

When my sweetie told me about Draw Something I told her I’d check it out. After a few days of harassing me to get it I finally downloaded it and I haven’t looked back. Only having it for about a day I’ve been playing it nonstop and it’s pretty safe to say I’m addicted. Here’s why:

The game is quite simple in nature. You have a choice between three words that are of easy, medium and hard varieties. Each word gets a coin value. One for easy, two for medium and three coins for hard. You are then set with a simple palette of colors to draw out the word. Once you do, the other person then gets to watch you draw out the word, mess ups and all, as they are given a set of letters that for guessing the word. If they guess correctly you both get coins. The coins are then used to help you buy various features and add-ons. You can buy more colors to draw with or helpful bombs. The bombs allow you to choose new words to draw or remove erroneous letters not needed for guessing.

You can create a user name that allows others to find you easily and you can also connect to Facebook. Facebook connections will show you who of your friends are playing and will allow you to create games with them. Once you start just choose a word, draw, guess and repeat. It’s as easy as that. What’s nice is that you can play across platforms so if you have friends with an iDevice you can play with them too.

There are two versions of the game, a free and paid version. The free version gives you over 900 words to use and the paid version gives you over 2000. You get 400 coins to jump start your palette selection or the amount of bombs you have at your disposal. Both will give you 5 free bombs to start out with. The free version has ads but they aren’t in obnoxious areas.

What’s addicting about the game is that it can be quite humorous in a not-on-purpose manner. Watching your friends struggle with trying to draw a word can be quite funny. Plus watching their interpretations of the word you’re supposed to guess can be pretty funny too. With the amount of words they have you’ll be sure to have plenty of laughs.

I only have a few small gripes with the game and honestly they aren’t deal breakers but rather more like minor annoyances. This game would be perfect for those who have a Galaxy Note as the stylus would probably make drawing a lot easier, but be that as it may, using your finger can be annoying when you’re trying to be accurate. While that’s not the point of the game sometimes I feel that I must be Vincent Van Gogh in my drawings.

The only other gripe that I have is a lack of notifications. That is, on the Android side of things. My sweetie gets push notifications on her iPhone no problem. I however, find that I have to go to the app to see if someone has drawn a picture or not. I assume though that this will be fixed in a later update and like I said, it’s only a minor annoyance.

To conclude, Draw Something is probably one of the simplest games you’ll ever be addicted to. You can try the free version if you’re skeptical but I honestly think you’ll jump to the paid version after just a short time so just save yourself some time and drop the $0.99 that this app currently costs. It’s on sale now so I recommend doing it soon before the price goes up.

Trust me, you won’t be sorry. Even with the minor annoyances this game is solid and those minor annoyances are my own personal gripes. So what are you waiting for? • Great review.  Love this game.  Hit me up for some rounds at DJEaton if you run out of friends to play with! :)

  • OMGPOP Originally has Draw Me Something and it was highly addicting, as well. Kudos to OMGPOP for a job well done.

Great review, and I’m already highly addicted to this game. My complaint, though, is about the battery consumption. Boy, this game loves a juice.

  • Fun game, but I paid for the upgrade and didn’t get it.  That means all the words have been done to death and now it’s down to how many ways can you draw “mohawk”.  The developers do not respond to questions, such as, can I either have my 2000 words or my .99 back?
