Best recipe apps

Whether you’ve been making cream puffs and French pastries for years, or it’s a miracle you can make your toast in the morning, cooking apps are a world of help when it comes to anything food related. Not sure what to cook up for your super bowl party? There’s an app for that. Not sure what to make for dinner with the specific ingredients you currently have? There’s an app for that, too! And if you’re just browsing recipe apps for no specific reason, they’re full of great cooking inspiration, creating a shopping list, keeping all your recipes in one place, and so on. Follow along and we’ll show you our top 5 picks!

Food Network in the Kitchen

The world’s go-to place for cooking TV, Food Network in the Kitchen is an app where you’ll find all of the recipes from the TV shows (and more), right on your Android device. On the app, you can search the thousands and thousands of amazing recipes to find what you’re looking for, or even to just browse for some weeknight dinner inspiration.

But this app goes beyond the simple recipe-search. If you’re browsing and find a recipe that looks fantastic, you can add it to your favorites so you can find it to make later. Another awesome feature is the “recipe box,” which will allow you to easily add needed ingredients to your shopping list. Other features include the ability to watch cooking clips, search by cook or recipe type, and more. A wealth of delicious food information, you’re not going to want to miss out on this app.

All Recipes Dinner Spinner

Fun and full of flavor (pun absolutely intended), All Recipes Dinner Spinner gives you access to, well, all recipes. If you’re not familiar with All Recipes, it’s a website where the recipes are added by the cooks. The “cooks” could be your neighbor, your aunt in Florida, or even yourself, since anyone can add their recipes to share with the All Recipes community!

One of the best things about All Recipes Dinner Spinner is how customizable it is. It’s never been easier to find meals that fit your specific diet, especially since you can type something in (i.e. pie), and select vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free, etc. Another great feature is how you can adjust the number of servings on any recipe, and it’ll alter the recipe to fit that number of servings, which is especially handy when you’re planning on feeding a crowd. And those are just a couple of the fantastic features on Dinner Spinner! If you try it out, you won’t ever go back to simply Googling “easy dinners.”

Recipe Keeper

If your recipe collection has outgrown your old recipe book, or you’re just wanting to go digital, Recipe Keeper is an app for Android that will allow you to store everything in one place, digitally! If you’ve ever forgotten which book has what recipe, or you’ve lost the note card with Grandma’s famous banana pudding on it, then Recipe Keeper is an app you need to download, and stat!

To make Recipe Keeper your own, you can use it as you go and enter your favorite recipes as you make them, or all in one sitting. Add your ingredients and directions, and you’re good to go! The best part is, you’ll never have to fear losing those recipes again, because they can be sorted and categorized by meal or type of dish. Recipe Keeper also has a meal planner, where you can select your meals and it’ll send them straight onto a shopping list for you. If that’s not handy, what is?

Whether you consider yourself a “seasoned” (pun fully intended again) chef, or you’re just starting out, Cookpad is an amazing resource and community of fellow cooks around the world. Not only does Cookpad have a ton of delicious recipes, but if you’ve been too busy to run to the grocery store or you’re just not sure what to make for dinner, you can simply enter in the ingredients you have in your fridge or pantry and it will generate recipe suggestions for you.

Cookpad is a place where you, too, can publish your favorite recipes for others to try. You can also allow cookpad to access your meal photos, and each year on certain days it’ll show you what you had cooked this time the previous year. And another great feature (although there are plenty more I could write about), is the new chat system. You can message friends or family in cookpad, sending them photos, recipe suggestions, and more. With Cookpad, cooking becomes a community effort.
