How to enable the app drawer in Huawei’s EMUI 5.0

So you have a new Huawei phone such as the Mate 9 and you are faced with app icons spread willy-nilly all over the home screen. It’s frustrating, right? Luckily, the Mate 9 is running EMUI 5.0, the latest iteration of Huawei’s custom software overlay, and the first that actually has an app drawer built-in. Naturally, it isn’t the default option so join us after the break to find out how to enable the app drawer on EMUI 5.0.

While the Mate 9 is the first Huawei handset to sport EMUI 5.0, both the P9 and Honor 8 are testing the new version, and scheduled to receive an update in the first half of 2017. Without any further ado, you can follow the steps below to learn how to enable the app drawer in EMUI 5.0.

You need to unlock your handset, and then tap on the Settings app.

Once you are in Settings, tap on the Home Style section which is two-thirds of the way down the screen.

You can now see that there’s two choices, with the Standard style set as default. Below is the option called Drawer, this is the one you need to choose.

Once you’ve chosen to enable the Drawer option, the display will go blank for a second as the home screen sorts itself out. The app drawer icon will appear in the middle of the bottom of the display, just under the paginator.

Tap the app drawer icon and you’ll be greeted with all the app icons in alphabetical order. You can look for a specific app via the search box on top or jump to a section using the letters on the right-hand side of the app drawer.

If you still can’t get your head around Huawei’s EMUI 5.0, don’t forget, you can always just install a third-party launcher on your handset, as shown in the video guide below.

Problem, this option doesn’t seem to exist. There’s just standard and simple. How do I enable the part of this menu that has the app drawer setting?

    • Hi Eric. Is your device running EMUI 5.0 or later?
