Nokia’s “most awaited phone” to be revealed on August 21st

HMD Global engaged in a bit of hyperbole last week via their Nokia Mobile Twitter account when they posted a teaser image for a new phone to be revealed on August 21st. In the image, the claim is made that this is the company’s “most awaited phone.” You may be wondering how that is possible since there have not been any rumors or leaks or general speculation surrounding the Nokia brand in recent months. In any case, sources believe the new smartphone will be the Nokia 9, which is expected to be the next flagship level device for Nokia.

The Nokia brand is more closely associated with the mid-tier market and devices like the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6.1. Both of those are solid entries from Nokia. At the upper end, there is the Nokia 8 Sirocco. Ostensibly a flagship level device, Nokia had not yet jumped on board the tall display bandwagon sticking with a 16:9 aspect ratio. They also used what was essentially an out-of-date Snapdragon 835 processor even as other flagship level devices were moving to the Snapdragon 845.

The Nokia teaser image does not do much to reveal any of the specs for the upcoming device. Nor does it really do anything to confirm it is the Nokia 9. Some posters on Twitter have suggested this is actually the Nokia 6.1 Plus based on reports regarding Nokia’s support pages in India.
