The Smart Speaker Moto Mod with Alexa built-in launches in November for $149

Virtual assistants are heading to almost every device we can think of, from refrigerators to headphones, with Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa being the main culprits. While Google Assistant is baked into pretty much every Android smartphone today, Amazon’s Alexa has basically made a one-off appearance on Huawei’s Mate 9 and nothing since. That’s about to change, however, with the launch of Motorola’s Smart Speaker Moto Mod that adds Alexa to the Moto Z series of handsets.

Being a Moto Mod, the Smart Speaker simply attaches to the rear of the Moto Z handset and allows users to take Alexa out and about with them. With 4 built-in microphones, the Smart Speaker should hear verbal requests with no problems as users ask Alexa what time it is, to play music, or perhaps to power on the lights at home. Worried that the Smart Speaker will drain your Moto Z’s battery in a flash? Don’t be, because Motorola claims that the mod features up to 15 hours worth of battery life built-in.

The Smart Speaker with Amazon’s Alexa baked-in will be available to order in November with a $149 price tag. It isn’t exactly cheap, but it is a mod that actually adds some functionality to the handset. Although, one negative point is that it seems to block the phone’s rear camera, which is definitely something you should keep in mind if you are thinking about placing an order.

What do you think of this latest Moto Mod? Are you chomping at the bit to get Amazon’s Alexa on your Moto Z handset?
