Last year’s Galaxy Note 7 debacle is well documented, the worldwide recall of the handset left many fans of the series bitterly disappointed, and without a like-for-like upgrade path. It seems that Samsung hasn’t forgotten about previous owners of the Galaxy Note 7 though, with the Korean electronics manufacturer offering to discount the Galaxy Note 8 that launched earlier today by up to $425.
Samsung revealed during the Unpacked event that former Galaxy Note 7 owners could claim up to $425 off the price of a Galaxy Note 8. Considering that there is a ton of former Galaxy Note 7 owners out there, almost 3 million of them in fact and that the fiasco has already cost Samsung around $5 billion, this additional discount could also prove a costly exercise. Still, the gesture does symbolize loyalty to fans of the Galaxy Note series.
If you used to own a Galaxy Note 7 and you want to take advantage of the discount, you’ll have to pre-order the handset in the normal fashion from Samsung.com. There are a couple of things to consider in that for the moment at least, this offer is only available to U.S. residents, and you will have trade-in your current handset. The amount of discount you’ll be awarded depends on which model handset you trade in, and its condition. So it isn’t a given that you’ve definitely receive the full $425 discount.
If you owned a Galaxy Note 7, is this gesture of loyalty from Samsung enough to get you to take a chance on the Galaxy Note 8? Let us know in the comments below.
