Samsung is offering former Galaxy Note 7 owners a big discount to pre-order the Galaxy Note 8

Last year’s Galaxy Note 7 debacle is well documented, the worldwide recall of the handset left many fans of the series bitterly disappointed, and without a like-for-like upgrade path. It seems that Samsung hasn’t forgotten about previous owners of the Galaxy Note 7 though, with the Korean electronics manufacturer offering to discount the Galaxy Note 8 that launched earlier today by up to $425.

Samsung revealed during the Unpacked event that former Galaxy Note 7 owners could claim up to $425 off the price of a Galaxy Note 8. Considering that there is a ton of former Galaxy Note 7 owners out there, almost 3 million of them in fact and that the fiasco has already cost Samsung around $5 billion, this additional discount could also prove a costly exercise. Still, the gesture does symbolize loyalty to fans of the Galaxy Note series.

If you used to own a Galaxy Note 7 and you want to take advantage of the discount, you’ll have to pre-order the handset in the normal fashion from There are a couple of things to consider in that for the moment at least, this offer is only available to U.S. residents, and you will have trade-in your current handset. The amount of discount you’ll be awarded depends on which model handset you trade in, and its condition. So it isn’t a given that you’ve definitely receive the full $425 discount.

If you owned a Galaxy Note 7, is this gesture of loyalty from Samsung enough to get you to take a chance on the Galaxy Note 8? Let us know in the comments below.

What does the fact that I use a older nor good condition phone at present have to do with the fact that they took away my note 7? They shut it off in my hand. This upsets me. It should be a straight discount for people that suffered through the no fly, slowed down data, shut off mess that was the Note 7. I didn’t want to buy any newer phone after that trauma.
The website says nothing about a discount. When I call Samsung they tell me to keep checking back”… Hum

We should get the Note 8 for free with a trade in!!! I was forced to buy a S7 Edge during the recall. It’s NOTaNOTE, but I paid for this $800 phone and waited for Samsung to fix their problems. They claimed then that they would swap the S7 for a Note 8 when they came out. Now they think they’re being generous by telling us we have to give them our phones for a discount on a Note 8!!!??? WTH??? It’s my phone! I freaking paid for a phone that I didn’t really want because my Note was gone. They’re going to turn around and resell all of the phones everyone is foolishly sending them. They aren’t even promising to give you a complete credit! If your phone is a piece of junk you get nothing! I’m so disappointed in Samsung. The person that made up this offer thinks we’re idiots! If the phone isn’t FREE to Note 7 sufferers, then I won’t be buying another Samsung product ever!!!

Does this work if you got your Note 7 through a carrier? I got the Note 7, recalled, had to return got the edge 7. Note 7 was “fixed”. Returned the edge 7, got another Note 7. Recalled AGAIN. Returned and got another edge 7. I think I deserve a Note 8 discount.
