Essential Phone gets caught on video in public

The Essential Phone is due to start shipping out to customers soon, but we don’t have an exact date just yet. Despite the phone technically not being available, someone got their hands on one and managed to accidentally get captured in public using it.

The user was caught on Snapchat, so we’re really just looking at a short 10 second clip of the Essential Phone, not anything in-depth. The user is having a conversation in WhatsApp, and he gets a notification that drops in just like they do in Android Nougat.

The top of the device that houses the screen that bends around the camera also sticks out, at least on the white model. Instead of the camera blending into the black background, there’s a stark white outline around the lens that wasn’t completely apparent in the press images.

I can see how that could be a distracting feature on a phone with such an immersive screen, but some people might go for it.

Maybe this means Essential’s legal spat with Spigen won’t keep the device from a smooth launch.

Fake, notice the antenna band on the left side, the essential doesn’t have those.
