ZTE could soon launch its own Android Wear smartwatch

It appears that ZTE could soon be getting into the Android Wear business with its own smartwatch, according to a report from VentureBeat.

Marketing material shared with VentureBeat shows that we could see a smartwatch from ZTE called the Quartz. It actually recently received its Bluetooth certification under the model name of ZW10.

Details right now are scarce, as the marketing material obtained still shows that the smartwatch is in its early development stages, meaning anything could change at this stage in the game. The only thing we really can expect is UMTS 3G cellular connectivity, something that was shown on its Bluetooth certification. Presumably, this would mean that the Quartz could potentially operate independently from a smartphone.

We’re not quite sure when ZTE will unveil details about the Quartz. It’s highly possibly we’ll see something at Mobile World Congress later this month, but for now, details remain up in the air.

With Android Wear 2.0 launching tomorrow, it’s almost an obvious sign that the elusive Quartz smartwatch will be running on the latest version of Android Wear as well.
