Galaxy S8 to have a 90% screen-to-body ratio

Samsung is gearing up for the Galaxy S8 launch, and it could be the best Samsung smartphone yet. New rumors are reporting that Samsung’s upcoming flagship could sport a bezel-less display.

Details after the break.

This report, coming by way of The Investor — a Korean publication — says that one of the drastic changes underway is an edge-to-edge screen based on an OLED panel.

The Investor says a Samsung Display researcher declined to comment, but did say a considerable amount of resources are being poured into the development process. Of course, that’s nothing out of the ordinary.

However, Park Won-sang, a principal engineer at Samsung Display, had some interesting words to say at the iMiD 2016 exhibit in Seoul last week:

“Samsung Display would roll out a full-screen display whose display area ratio reaches more than 90 percent next year.”

Currently, an average screen has around an 80% screen-to-body ratio. In contrast, the recently announced Xiaomi Mi Mix has a 91.3% screen-to-body ratio. So, if we get something close to that with the Galaxy S8, we could be getting a new device with an unprecedented (and more fragile) design.

Either way, the Galaxy S8 is setting up to be an intriguing smartphone.

Yeahhh, even easier to break the display, how about focusing on crack proof displays, or at least make it possible to replace the glass without spending a fortune
