The Play Store is a distribution center for millions of different apps. And because of that sheer amount available, it can be difficult for developers to get their apps in front of an audience. Google is looking to help improve that today through search by adding new app categories that developers can classify their apps as.
Among the new categories available are:
- Art & Design
- Auto & Vehicles
- Food & Drink
- House & Home
Google is hoping by classifying your app under the most relevant category, developers will be able to make their apps stand out just a bit more.
The search giant also noted that some categories are being renamed. For instance, the “Transportation” will be renamed to “Maps & Navigation.” Similarly, Google is renaming the “Media & Video” to “Video Players & Editors.”
Newly added categories won’t be available on the Play Store straight away. Google did note that it’ll take up to 60 days for them to appear. With that in mind, if you choose an app category that isn’t currently available to users, your app category could change automatically.
