Ok, well it did, just not as many as they wanted you to believe. Maybe they wanted to strike fear into the hearts if iPhone users, or maybe their PR department just didn’t get the memo, but Sprint apparently overstated just how successful the EVO was on launch day.
On Tuesday, Sprint said that the number of EVO 4G’s sold was in line with the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined.
“We originally reported that the total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined. We inadvertently erred in the comparison,”
Sprint said in a statement on Tuesday. Analyst Walter Piecyk reduced his EVO sales estimates from ~275,000 down to 150,000 after the announcement.
