Earlier this month Huawei Device Chairman and Consumer BG CEO Yu Chengdong suggested a variant of the Huawei Ascend P7 equipped with a sapphire display could be on the way to market. This is part of the company’s intent to release “shocking products” that will push the boundaries of the market. That suggestions seems to have moved from suggestion to certainty after Yu posted a new image of the Ascend P7 on Chinese social site Weibo and indicated the company is adding a Sapphire line to their portfolio.
Aside from the addition of a Sapphire display to the device, no other information was shared indicating other hardware will change. Yu also did not say anything about pricing or a release date. However, Huawei may want to reveal the new variant at IFA 2014 next week when they can get a jump on other major industry players by being first to market with a sapphire display.
