Looxcie – a bluetooth video camera headset for Android phones

Heres a neat concept – take a bluetooth headset and throw in a camera that see’s everything you see.  Now add an Android app that allows you to  turn your phone into a viewfinder, remote control, and editing tool for creating clips (up to 30 minutes in length), and you may as well be on your way to becoming a hybrid cyborg!  This neat little device from Looxcie is perfect for those who are into almost-live vlogging (video blogging), or just want to take out the effort of transferring video and editing it on a computer to share with family and friends.

Got a phone call?  No problem, Looxcie doubles as a standard bluetooth headset and can continue to shoot video as well – with 4 hours of recording time to go with its 5 hours of onboard storage  (6+ hours of continuous talk time without video).  Note, the Looxcie app is only available on certain Android phones running Android 2.0 and higher.  It’s available on Amazon today for $199.

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ — Looxcie, Inc. announced today the launch of Looxcie™ (look-see), the first small, light, easy-to-wear camcorder that videos everything the user sees. A Bluetooth-enabled headset, Looxcie fits comfortably on the ear and points where the user looks. Because it is always on, always videoing, users never have to worry about pressing a record button or missing a key event. When an unexpected moment occurs, a press of the instant clip button captures the last 30 seconds of video and stores it as a permanent clip on the device. Users can immediately share their clips by email while they’re fresh and relevant. The accompanying Looxcie smartphone application also turns the phone into a viewfinder, remote control and editing tool for creating clips up to 30 minutes in length. “Looxcie frees people to remain engaged in what they’re doing rather than be burdened by the technology,” said Looxcie CEO Romulus Pereira. “We built Looxcie with the goal of freeing people to participate in life’s moments as they happen, and to share these excerpts on the go, rather than wait until after the event and excitement has passed.”

Looxcie currently operates with the majority of Android 2.0 and higher smartphones, with support for additional smartphone operating systems forthcoming. Clips can also be uploaded to a Mac or PC via the USB connector for archiving, viewing, editing or additional sharing. Users can also pre-program an Instant Share recipient so that when they “long-press” the instant clip button, Looxcie automatically sends the clip to the pre-determined email address. A complete list of compatible phones is available at www.looxcie/looxcie-app.html. Looxcie will be available for sale beginning today at Amazon.com  for a suggested retail price of $199.

“Our goal is to offer a wide selection and exclusive access to the latest and greatest consumer technologies,” said Jim Adkins, director of wireless and mobile electronics for Amazon.com and AmazonWireless.com. “We are pleased to team with Looxcie to bring their next-generation solution to our customers.”

Product Details:

Looxcie utilizes a dual processor system for video and Bluetooth communication so the headset can operate in video mode and talk mode at the same time, or separately.  Looxcie uses a mini processor for Bluetooth that includes a digital signal processing system to process and optimize the audio. The camcorder’s mini video processor includes software by Looxcie that optimizes power use, automatically corrects for light and color, and formats video for mobile devices. These processing systems operate concurrently so users can simultaneously handle calls and capture video.

  • this would be loads of fun on a bike ride. Currently unavailable in amazon will keep an eye on this one.

  • SirWally

That is neat! The only problems I have are:

    1) Much like many Bluetooth headsets, you will look like a tool with a bazooka strapped to the side of your head. It would be nice if the camera was detachable.

    2) Only 15FPS? Bummer. I like neat gizmos, but if the quality is poor then it is only neat for a few minutes. I would have expected far better video quality than that for $200!

    3) If the camera was detachable and could then be reattached to a clip accessory, we would be onto a hot product! Video conferencing for every phone without an FFC.

  • JoAnn

Now you can look like even more of a tool than ordinary bluetooth headset wearing tools!

  • will it record in the dark

    Sir Wally’s comment:
    >3) If the camera was detachable and could then be reattached to a clip accessory, we would be onto a hot product! Video conferencing for every phone without an FFC.
