[Breaking] Google to release 5 Nexus devices on November 5th to celebrate Android’s 5th birthday

Last week we reported that Google would offer five Nexus devices later this year and sell them directly out of the Play Store. Well, a reliable source just told us that we can expect to see them on November 5th. Why November 5th? It just so happens it’s Android’s 5th Birthday. Now you can clearly see why they plan on offering five devices.

Right now it’s a little unclear if they will actually be released or unveiled on November 5th. Last year the Galaxy Nexus was unveiled on October 18 (originally scheduled for October 11), and released overseas in mid November. The timing makes perfect sense so definitely mark your calendars for Monday, November 5, 2012 for a very big day indeed.

    5 devices, 5 years, version 5…OK, I suppose I can see it.

Unfortunately, I don’t think my Nexus One is going to survive that long.

    • dalex7777

Yes, but a return to an HTC Nexus device will well be worth the wait: I’m guessing we will get 3 or 4 phones and a tablet or two: HTC, Motorola, Samsung, LG and ASUS.  Although Sony could be a dark horse.

    • Sell the Nexus One and buy the Galaxy Nexus. Then sell the Galaxy Nexus in Novemeber.

  • Remember, remember the 5th of November.

Thats just when my contract runs out… :-)

    • Monsta

I’m under the impression these phones will be direct from Google, with no carrier involved; which could jack prices up(and negatively affecting sales).

      • dildroid

i doubt they would have overlooked something like price.

    5 yrs , android 5.0 , 5 devices , 5 oem’s maybe ? (htc , samsung , lg , asus , moto) ??

    • Meiyi_3000

HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony, & maybe Motorola instead of Asus. (Asus for tablet)

Why is everyone so keen on it being 5 nexus phones…. why not 5 nexus devices. A nexus phone, a nexus tablet, the nexus google glasses, a nexus google tv, and I don’t know what the 5th might be… maybe a nexus dish washer

    • MikeCiggy

I think we can definitely expect 1 or 2 tablets and 3 or 4 phones. Project Glass is still just a project…

    • I would probably grab the fifth one. lol

    • copaytheunicorn

How much you wanna bet these are going to be existing phone hardware with pure Jellybean on board?  I doubt we’ll see five brand new devices.

  • Michael

I hope they will be pure stock devices because I’m tired of receiving updates so late or not receiving them at all I really hope carriers can fix this problem with fluidity and consistentcy. It’ one of the only reasons I like ios

    • Iucidium

      Nexus IS pure stock.

      • Michael

Ya I know but have you seen the Verizon galaxy nexus and how Verizon has been delaying 4.0.4 till today. I hope google can take more control on their devices

        • As

Well it’s Verizon’s fault. Shitty carrier gets shitty services.

    • Michael Walters

Buy unlocked from Google you get the updates as they are released by Google. (This is way before any carrier)

    • Michael

Yeah im tired of carriers delaying updates like Verizon with the galaxy nexus but for me purchasing an unlocked isn’t an option at 600$+

  • Shuruj Mia

    I prefer 5 phones
    a) HTC (with qwert,HTC HD2 winphone had the best mobile qwert)
    b) Samsung (with stylus)

No offense, but did you bother to do the math? 1.0 launched in 2008. 5.0 will launch in 2012. That’s 4 years not 5.

Saying Google will launch 5 nexus devices to celebrate version 5.0 of Android is accurate. Saying it’s to celebrate 5 years of Android is not.

    • Labrat

Google purchased the initial developer of the software, Android Inc., in 2005.[7] The unveiling of the Android distribution in 2007 was announced with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 86…

The OHA was established on 5 November 2007, led by Google with 34 members…

You would count years this way
      2008 (1)
      2009 (2)
      2010 (3)
      2011 (4)
      2012 (5)
