Promo leak for Sony’s Xperia Z confirms a full HD display

Sony’s Xperia Z, code named as “Yuga,” for quite sometime now has been rumored to be Sony’s next flagship device for 2013. The Z will be a  5 inch 1080p device and thanks to this leaked screen shot of a promo video for the device, we should expect it to have a full HD display.

The device is also expected to have a 13MP Exmor RS camera with fast capture and HDR. To top it all off, the Z will also be water-resistant.

I’m really interested in seeing what Sony has to offer in mobile phones this year. With specs like these, it’s hard to look past them and go straight for Samsung these days. Let’s just hope their devices are developer friendly and free up the bootloaders.

Sony to announce Sony Xperia Z at CES 2013

Chinese web site ePrice is reporting Sony will unveil the forthcoming Sony Xperia Z at CES 2013. The new Sony handset is quickly morphing into a device similar to LG’s Google Nexus 4 in that so many images and leaks are coming out, any official announcement is almost anti-climatic. We have already been treated to a detailed review of the device going by the name Sony Yuga and reports have already surfaced indicating the name would be changed to the Sony Xperia Z. With this new 5-inch device, Sony is trying to remain in the market and compete for buyers looking for 1080p display devices. The addition of water and dust resistant coatings to improve survive-ability in harsh climates or against the occasional mishap may help set it apart from competitors.

ePrice indicates the new handset, after debuting at CES 2013, will hit the Chinese market on January 15th where it is expected to sell for 4289 yuan ($690 USD). No word yet on what the future release schedule will be like for other markets. Up to now, we only knew the new device would be announced some time in the first quarter of 2013. We are glad to see it will be near the beginning of 2013. With luck, TalkAndroid will get some hands-on time with the Xperia Z during CES 2013.

Sony Yuga to debut as the Xperia Z, feature 5-inch 1080p display with OptiContrast technology

A new report regarding Sony’s heavily leaked Yuga C660X has surfaced today, suggesting the elusive handset could eventually launch as the Xperia Z. In addition to the new naming scheme, the device is said to sport a water and dust resistant coating, with an Ingress Protection (IP) rating of IP55 and IP57. In the past, Sony has equipped its Xperia V and Xperia Acro S with the same type of coating.

The handset’s rumored 5-inch 1080p display will be outfitted with Sony’s OptiContrast technology, something that isn’t all too surprising considering the latest fleet of the company’s devices features the same display tech. What’s more is that the Xperia Z will reportedly be just 7.99mm thin, equating to one of the thinnest devices ever for Sony.

Of course, there’s no word on a release date, or even when we’ll get a chance to take a look at this bad boy, but we’d expect to hear something official in Q1 of 2013.

Images Of Sony “Yuga” Prototype Surfaces

It’s no secret that Sony has a superphone in the works for 2013, but it appears that we now have an idea of what this device may look like. Thanks to some leaked images from Mobile Review, you can see how the Sony “Yuga” looks in plain view— and she sure is a beauty too. Similar to the Nexus 4 or LG Optimus G smartphones (as well as previous renderings we had seen before), the device is almost entirely coated in a glassy-type material coupled with a sleek black finish. In addition, Mobile Review indicates the smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon-based processor— refuting any type of rumor highlighting the device would possibly be powered by a Samsung Exynos processor.

So now that we’re beginning to see more and more information pour out for this impressive device, all that’s needed now is a better idea of when Sony will finally come out and formally show this device to the masses. Considering Sony has a history of unveiling premium devices at certain January trade shows, we suspect that we’ll likely see something then.

Sony Rumored To Have “Yuga” Smartphone In The Works, Would Feature 128GB Of Storage And Samsung Quad-Core Processor

We now have some additional Sony news to share with you all. As previously indicated recently, we knew that Sony has at least one major flagship device that is in the works behind the scenes, though we couldn’t quite confirm what the expected specs would be— until now. Thanks to the gang at Phone Arena, we now know that Sony has named a mysterious device the C660X “Yuga”, which will be a 5-incher and be completely surrounded in Dragonglass glass panel (Dragonglass is similar to Corning’s Gorilla Glass). The news doesn’t stop there either— the upcoming device is reported to feature a specialized quad-core processor not from NVIDIA, Qualcomm or Mediatek— but rather the “Yuga” will feature a Samsung Exynos variant processor, which is a shocking departure from the normal processors that are used, but not completely unexpected considering we knew Samsung intends to have its processors all sorts of manufacturers’ smartphones. Additional details about the “Yuga” includes the following:

Samsung Exynos 5 Quad
3 GB
5 inch OLED display FHD
128GB ROM
16 megapixel
3000mAh battery
Water / Dust resistant
IR blaster

What’s unclear though is if this device will be identified as the Xperia 5 (or Xperia 6) or if it will be given some other name. Also, no one seems to know when this device is expected to be released– though we have a hunch we’ll see it in Q3 or Q4 of 2013. Still– we certainly know that Sony has some clear intentions on snagging a big share of the market place— and this device could certainly go a long way with achieving that goal. Stay tuned with Talk Android as we try to get further details of what could be a potentially game-changing device.

Sony’s 2013 potential flagship devices ousted; Quad-core Cortex-A15 with a huge battery is expected

Recently there have been rumblings of Sony releasing some hefty Android juggernauts in the coming year of 2013. Codename’s of Sony’s Yuga/Odin have been flying around lately and is expected to be one hell of a device. With Sony recently taking HTC’s #2 spot and only behind Samsung when it comes to Androids top manufacturers, I’m sure they’re preparing for a big push this next year to challenge that top spot.

The leaks are pointing towards 5+” full HD displays paired with a  quad-core Cortex-A15 processors along with 13 MP Exmor RS cameras on the back. Here’s what the Sony tipster had to say:

Images leak for the Sony C6603 ‘Yuga’

We reported about a new Sony beast dubbed the “Odin” or C650X (the X gets replaced with a number) from a leaked agent profile and shortly after, an image leaked. Now we have images of a C6603 compliments of German site Android Schweiz, with a codename “Yuga”. I am assuming this is the same phone, but with a new bump in the model number. The specs seem the same as anticipated, 5-inch 1080p display, 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, and running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. They are claiming the camera is 12MP, but you would think it would be the 13MP Exmor RS. Who knows, that could still change. Another tidbit is that it will sport a unibody design so that means no removable battery, but they will include a microSD slot and microHDMI port. Could we see this at CES? More pics after the break.
